Soundbite Privacy Policy

Effective June 22, 2026

Who we are

Soundbite ("Soundbite", "we", "us") is a voice-first social app where short audio clips are shared inside private and public groups ("squads"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Soundbite mobile app. This service is operated by the Soundbite team.

Information we collect

Account data: when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique account identifier and create your profile (your chosen @username). We do not store your password.

Content you create: audio recordings ("soundbites"), mood notes and their optional voice clips, squad names/descriptions/tags, reactions, profile photos and squad cover images, and the voice effect you choose.

Usage and device data: which clips you have listened to (to show "new" badges and resume playback), squads you belong to, push notification tokens for your device, and basic diagnostic information needed to keep the app working.

We do not knowingly collect precise location, contacts, or biometric data. (An optional contacts feature exists in code but is disabled and not used.)

How we use your information

To provide the core service: deliver your soundbites to the squads you post to, play back chains, track what you have heard, and show profiles and moods.

To send notifications you have opted into (for example, when a new clip is posted to a squad you are in). You can mute squads or disable notifications in your device settings.

To keep the community safe: process reports, apply rate limits, and remove content that breaks our rules.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content to serve third-party advertising.

Anonymous squads

Some squads are "anonymous," meaning other members see a random alias instead of your real @username and photo. Anonymity is a display feature only: your account identifier is still stored with each clip so we can enforce our rules, respond to reports, and comply with law. Do not treat anonymous squads as truly untraceable.

How information is shared

With other users: the soundbites, reactions, moods, and profile details you choose to share are visible to members of the squads you participate in (subject to the anonymity rules above).

With service providers: we use Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions, and push messaging) and Expo (app delivery and push tokens) to operate the app. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.

For legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of users or the public.

Data retention

We keep your account and content until you delete them or delete your account. Mood notes automatically expire 24 hours after they are set. Squad "vibe" clips expire after 24 hours. When you delete a clip or your account, we remove the associated records and audio files; backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

Your choices and rights

Access and export: you can export a copy of your core data from Profile → Privacy → Export my data.

Deletion: you can permanently delete your account and associated content from Profile → Privacy → Delete account. This removes your profile, your soundbites, your moods, your connections, and removes you from your squads. This cannot be undone.

Per-content control: you can delete your own clips, mute other users, and report content from the app.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (access, correction, portability, objection). Contact us to exercise them.

Children

Soundbite is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher) to use it. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child below the required age, we will delete it. If you believe a child is using Soundbite, contact us at support@soundbite.app.

Security

We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, access-controlled storage, and server-enforced security rules) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International transfers

Our providers may process and store data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Effective" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice in the app.
